I am finding myself having to travel into Edinburgh using the first service available to Railcard Holders where free parking is available.

Have I any chance of getting a space at Polmont at this time (1000)

Sorry I don't actually know the answer to your question, but I understand that Uphall - quite nearby to you - has a shiny new free car park as part of the A-B scheme. Bathgate does as well. Not sure about Livingston North though. Each of these stations is served every 15 minutes to Edinburgh.

Slim to none! Just pay your 50p at Falkirk Grahamston and be done with it. Don't even think about using Linlithgow (although there is a newish overflow carpark round by the cricket field that does not always fill up - NB it takes longer to drive there than to walk from the station & this is on the Edinburgh side of Linlithgow so more of a drive from your direction [if you go under the canal bridge you have gone too far!]).

Uphall carpark is busy too but does not generally fill up completely. It is a bit of a slitter to drive there from Falkirk (take the former A9 now A803/B9080 to Threemiletown*; right onto B8096 through Ecclesmachan to Uphall; right at lights then left at mini roundabout again B8096 - watch for speed bumps as I lost my exhaust there; then straight on across the A89 junction to Uphall Station) - to be fair if you have driven that far you may as well carry on to Edinburgh.

I park at Polmont, Linlithgow, Uphall, & Dalmeny depending on my shifts. Parking at any of these stations is a nightmare between about 08:00 - 14:00. Good luck! :)

*This way gives you the option to check for spaces at PMT & LIN enroute* invest in a copy of OS Landranger Sheet 65*

It's nothing to do with paying 50p......inconveniently there is 0954 from FKG to EDB with the next one being 1024 - this is the first R/C eligible one but gets me in to late.

The 0954 ex FKG stops at Polmont at 1000 hence ok for travel.

Is parking 50p at High as I note there is a 1003 departure from there that would be ok.

How about buying a single from FKG to PMT then using your discounted FKG to EDB CDR to start short at PMT? An extra £2.10 in fares but this could be balanced against extra petrol, wear & tear on car, parking charges, & time.

Not sure of charges at FKK but I think some is chargeable and some is free (furthest away from station of course!)

Trouble is mainly caused by the £12 mimimum fare for R/C use before 10am or I could get anytime return for £7.25. If you get an off peak return £5.95 you can't come back until 1834 service and you can't buy anytime day return until after 10am. I'm sure in the old days if you bought an off peak return your return journey was not restricted timewise.

FKK looks the best bet - I'll check out the CP charges or leg it if necessary to the station. If I get a Falkirk Stations Return to Edinburgh I can always come back to FKG. The twenty minute walk uphill to FKK is a pain as I'm five away from FKG :p

I should have listened to the sage of Boness....

Attempted to park at Linlithgow at 2.45pm this afternoon.....All car Parks rammed at station.

Proceeded to the Regent Centre Car Park by Tescos....long stay bit was rammed with almost "double parking".

Used short stay bit (supposed to be 2hrs) but I was there for three...hopefully have dodged £70 fine !!!

For another time although Polmont station will be full, there is a free car park near the sports hall which you would have no problem with. About a 5 minute walk.

Yes thanks for that - in Linlithgow at The Regent Centre Long Stay the parking was ludicrous like Sat before X-Mas- there is obviously no control as at least 20 cars would have qualified for a ticket (parking outside a bay).

The reason I preferred Linlithgow was I have to go into town, come back and then drive to Kirkliston.

On street parking near Linlithgow Station is now even worse after the local council recently implemented on-street parking restrictions in a nearby housing area. Until this started, I could usually park within five minutes walk of Linlithgow Station, but no longer!
