Preston Bus Station at night.

Does anyone know if Preston Bus Station is open throughout the night?

I notice that there are National Express departures during the small hours but they don't give a specific departure point on their site.
Do they use the normal stands at night or are there alternative arrangements?

Bus station is closed at night, even though there is overnight services you have to treat the stands as a night stand by using the vehicle entrance as a pedestrian access point.

Overnighters normally depart from stands 30 - 50 but its best to ask someone already there if not, just chance it.

I well remember Preston Bus Station opening in 1970 (?) - my wife comes from Preston and her father worked for Scout Motors, Preston then Ribble Motor Services. Preston Corporation from day 1 did their utmost to stop pedestrians accessing the bus station other than through the subways, but to little avail. This didn't really affect the Ribble and 'others' (e.g. Fishwick) side of the bus station but greatly impinged on the Corporation bus side, especially when one-man buses were reversing from their stand, which started in approx 1971 from memory (Leyland Panthers). Now you HAVE to interact with the buses at night!

Out of interest what time does it close at night and open in the morning, and what services use it between those times?

Am not sure what time it closes overnight but I assume the following services pass through overnight Nat Ex 336 and the Megabus M11. Have passed through abot through about 04.00 on an M11 and it used the normal Megabus stop.

Preston Bus Station closes about midnight, although you can wait at the stands but outside the bus station, access as mentioned is using the roadway, unless it's changed National Express use stands 51-52-53.

On a couple of occasions I've travelled on the 23:50 departure off the bus station to get home from work. Security officers are always waiting for it to leave (as well as a couple more departures around the same time) so that they can lock the doors to the stands. The last departure that I know of during the day is the 00:15 113 short working to Wrightington, the bus station is closed when this departs. There are some overnight buses on Friday and Saturday nights on routes 1 & 3 (and I think 9) but these operate from nearby stops and roads.
