Heya folks,

I'm trying to book a sleeper train to penzance from Paddington around the end of this month, I'm trying to book a priv rate but I can't see any option, I've checked the RST website and am having no luck with it. Any help yall could give would be greatly appreciated!

I think you need to buy a Priv rate ticket and then pay a public rate berth fee.

Yes can confirm appropriate priv rate walk up ticket and public rate berth. It is bookable on the RST online website, after you select the fare against the sleeper train on the next page it gives you the option to add details for the berth and it will mention the price of berth then. Berth price is market priced so will vary (assuming availability).

Am I correct in thinking that the only people to avoid the berth fee are Gold status card holders?

How do you book these through a TIS I can see nothing about it in IKB?
Can only be done by GWR stations or on the Rail Staff Travel portal.

There is a special product, SUS RAIL STAFF TRVL route GWR SLEEPER which is used.

Not all Gold Status Passes include Sleeping Berths either.

Probably best to drop GWR an email and ask.

I think you might need to do it as a "Reservation Only" search using product SUS without specifying a Priv discount.

There is a very good reason why the Staff Travel rules/guide specifies that only GWR station ticket offices and/or the staff travel web portal are available for this - mainly in relation to the personal information which is captured as part of a sleeper booking.

For various reasons, that information is not shared, or not shared reliably when it's done by someone other than GWR or RDG.

Any other location should not issue a free sleeper berth, even if you work out how to do it.

This seems dubious, are you saying this is exclusively for Gold Status passes or sleeper bookings generally?

RDG and GWR reconcile the Gold Status Pass bookings to prevent misuse/error.

There are so few eligible Gold status passes in circulation that have the free sleeper berth endorsement that it should be incredibly unlikely any non GWR ticket office should ever come across them.

Staff discounted sleeper tickets are quota controlled.
If you cannot obtain one, the way around it is to fill in a box or a priv rate normal ticket, then pay for a berth

You're thinking of the Caledonian Sleeper. The Riviera has no berth inclusive tickets. For everybody, public or staff (except the gilded few established up thread) it is walk up ticket (or box) and pay for a berth.

Didn't realise that! I thought GWR did inclusive as well!
