I recently inquired about PTS training. It will cost £600 including VAT. This also include the DCR (it was explained to me as the third track on the railway).

Is it worth spending this money? Would I get a job over £8ph (I'm unskilled). Are there any jobs or agencies looking for PTS?

I check indeed.co.uk, simplyhired.co.uk and jobcentreplus but I don't know about the employment recruiters in the rail industry. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Hi pop gun,

The last I heard, you needed to be sponsored by a company to do a PTS. Has this changed now?

Most TOCs/FOCs/NR will give you PTS training if your job requires it.

Check the companies websites. What sort of role are you looking for?

Thanks for the quick responses. The training companies can sponsor you.

I'm unskilled, so I would be looking to be in a track gang, security, labourer
cable puller etc.

For the amount of jobs I see on the net it doesn't seem worth it unless there
are others I don't know about. I was working up until recently on the crossrail
project as a traffic marshal. My involvement finished last week. I would like to
get back in on another crossrail site or network rail or anyone of them.
I'm actively looking at those projects but I haven't heard a word back from
applications I've made, so I don't hold out much hope.

If you hold a PTS card, how difficult has it been to find work?

Hi pop_gun.

There have been a lot of people recently who have been sponsored to do their PTS or have paid for it privately. Concisder looking here http://www.railwaypeople.com/ as if you had a PTS some of the "labourer" jobs would be available to you. I think a lot of them are with the Perminant Way gangs and involve a lot of humping and dumping and installing of sleepers and rails etc.

Thanks to Dave1987 I now know about the railwaypeople website.
Have you had all the add on qualifications like LXT etc?
Most of the PTS jobs I've seen are away from London. It doesn't bother
me as I'm willing to travel as long as accommodation is paid for.

My course starts next week wednesday, but if you know of companies
I should contact please let me know.

Who do I contact for a replacement PTS card? My training provider is stalling me.
