Hi.

I'm also posting this in the bus forum.

A friend has recently moved fairly closeby. Neither of us drive so we're trying to figure out the best way to meet somewhere on public transport.

I live in Poulton le Fylde, he's in Broughton, just outside Preston.

The actual distance is hardly anything, but I just can't seem to see a convenient rendezvous point around halfway between the two places.

On the Train line out of Poulton, Kirkham&Wesham looks about halfway, and is listed as taking only 8 mins, but I can't find a similar route from his end, coming out of Broughton. Ideally he wouldn't be going into Preston first, as that seems going off-route.

Any ideas? Bus or train. Poulton end needs to be train really, as the bus starting point for journeys toward Preston is awkward for me.

Thanks.

The closest railway station to Broughton is Preston. I think the only buses from Broughton are to/from Preston, so Preston itself would be the logical place to meet.

Yes, it would be Preston. There are frequent(ish) buses from Broughton to Preston, and frequent trains from Poulton to Preston. The bus station being the opposite end of town to the railway station doesn't massively help, though, so there will need to be a little walking involved in Preston city centre.

Most other places would end up involving a taxi.

Does that apply to journeys towards Preston or does it apply to any bus service? If it's just the former, there's an hourly 42 which goes to Garstang - there are two buses an hour which go from Broughton to Garstang.

If the latter then I think I agree with the other suggestions that Preston is best.

Broughton is on the A6 heading North, and the B-road West beyond Woodplumpton isn't a major route let alone bus route to anywhere useful (when I used to meet a colleague for lunch in Broughton, his drive from the Poulton area was via Catterall).

As an alternative, if you can manage the additional walk to the 42 bus stop, you could arrange to meet in Garstang - which I see NorthOxonian has just mentioned.

Yeah, it's looking like it's going to have to be Preston. Frustrating there isn't a point med-way.

Ah well, thanks for all your efforts.

Garstang
Stagecoach 40/41 from Broughton (Preston-Lancaster)
Stagecoach 42 from Poulton (Blackpool-Lancaster/Morecambe)
Six pubs in the town centre

Or Lancaster
