I don't see a thread for this so here's the link to the dedicated websire to find out more; https://railway200.co.uk/

Apparently there's to be a special 4 carriage exhibition train that's to be moved around the country visiting many stations. There's nothing I can find to tell more on the unit that's being prepared for this. Nor are there any details of where it might be due to visit and when.

For the first question about which unit that detail must soon become clear.

In another thread there's discussion of unused platforms. There's plenty of scope there for potential display sites and plenty of time for changes to plans.

How will "the railway" use this potentially positive opportunity to its national advantage over the next 2 years? The 150th anniversary was largely limited to around Shildon.

Some units have just become available which would be ideal for exhibition purposes - can go anywhere (ac/dc/ loco hauled), and no need to remove seats to create an exhibition space.

I’m not sure how many ‘un-used’ platforms there are in major centres. The current thread on the subject includes ones like Derby and Preston. These may not be in normal passenger service but they are busy with empty stock or freight moves for example.

Indeed, and even if they weren't being used for that, they aren't generally maintained for passenger access either. It would be surprising if the TOCs or NR put the money up given the poor maintenance at stations as a whole.

Very poorly, I suspect, given the fragmented nature of its structure these days.

It's not a unit, AIUI.

And already in Railway 200 red? There's a lucky coincidence to save on paint!

I can't remember which year and whether it was 150 or 175 years but the floral display in Wolverton - "the first purpose built railway town" - designed around a wheel from a train is still looked after today.

Would be nice to see something special in Wolverton - "home of the royal train" - for the 200th anniversary.

I remember going on a special open day in the Works, I think for its 150th which was probably 1987/88
