just read on the bbc wales website that the line to Gwaun Cae Gurwen, Amman valley has now been re-opened to freight trains, at the moment there is only 1 train per day but this should increase to 3/4 per day by the summer.

first train arrived around 12:00 today, from what i have heard so i suspect some images will be on fotopic tonight or tommorow.

Most definetley good news. The government really needs to increase the amount of freight services that are running on our railways so this really is a positive step.

Just a question - is this the same line that the heritage operation will run (i know that is an old colliery line.)

Yes i believe the railway society does have intentions to run over that line but not all of it. i beleive that the engine only ran up as far as 100 yards outside the Amman station today as that is the end of network rail owned tracks.

there are intentions to run passenger trains to swansea which iterworked with the heart of wales line will mean a hourly service between swansea & ammanford
