Hi! It's most likely been asked dozens of times but I can't seem to find anything concrete

I'm planning to travel from Reading to Abbey Wood on the EL. I want to use my Railcard. If I go contactless (without the railcard obviously) according to TfL it's £15.60. If I use the site's ticket platform, it's £17.40 with my railcard. Is this right? Are the tickets cheaper if I just buy them at Reading station?

The fares you have quoted are correct. £15.60 is a single fare on Contactless priced on a 'single leg basis' so going from Reading to Abbey Wood and back will cost £31.20 (or more if travelling there or back at peak time).

The return off-peak day return from Reading to Abbey Wood as a 'paper ticket' is £30.80 without a railcard, and £20.30 with one. The corresponding single fares are £30.70, and £20.25, because these are priced on the traditional basis, where there is a discount for day return fares.

A single from Reading to London Underground Zones 1234 is £19.45 with a railcard, and £22.40 return.

The forum's website will be splitting at Southall to get a single fare of £17.40 (£11.15 plus £6.25), because that is cheaper than the through fare.

The fare is not cheaper if you buy it at Reading station.

That would be a much slower journey, as taking a GWR 80x or a GWR 387 is either non stop or just stopping at Twyford, Maidenhead and Slough with a change to the EL at Paddington.

I think the OP wants to travel on the Elizabeth Line from Reading to Abbey Wood just for the 'thrill'.

If catching a GWR train and travelling from Reading to Abbey Wood as a one off single journey, a railcard discounted single from Reading to Eynsford for £10.15, taking advantage of single leg pricing, and discounted Oyster from Paddington to Abbey Wood for £2.10 is cheaper than anything mentioned above.

The difficulty with any use of the Elizabeth Line on a split ticket basis is finding something inexpensive valid between Liverpool Street and Abbey Wood that doesn't involve touching in.

Thanks! It's just a one way journey as you said, for "fun". Looks like I'm going contactless then
