But you don't see diagrams on Real Time Trains. Somewhat baffled unless you mean train schedules.

ok i meant schedules. 
I want to print out a pdf of 1A01 05:05 Leeds to London Kings Cross from 5th August. But accessing it now the date is greyed out.
I know there is a way to do this.

Simply take a more recent and available page of the service (for example 12th August) and then replace the day of the month in the address bar.

Realtime Trains doesn't go back further than 7 days. Trying to put in a date manually for anything more than 7 days ago results in an error.
You can use Open Train Times to look further afield for the same information though. Below is a link to the service you're looking for:

What error? The link I posted is incorrect?
Sorry. Misunderstood your advise for looking at a station rather than a specific service. Albeit it would only work for services where the UID remains the same of course.
