I don't really know any areas for good old fashioned sit-in-a-field-in-the-rain type trainspotting anywhere, and as I'm based in the west country are there any good spots with lots of traffic around here? Wales wouldn't be a stretch, I have an unhealthy obssession with Pacers at the moment....

You wouldn't find any Pacers at Bristol apart from an odd rare occasion and, so far as Wales is concerned, only in the south revolving round Cardiff.

Newport is a decent place for 66's 70's class 143/150/158/170/175. HST's you also get the odd class 60 tug and Colas 47/56 on the rare occasion

Cardiff is the best for 142's and 143's and 150's and I prefer to call it an healthy obsession as I like pacers myself

Bristol Temple Meads is the place for 150's 153's 158's and HST'S more than anything

If you have a railcard a Freedom Of South West Rover represents excellent value

If you want to ride the pacers then a Valley Lines Day Ranger is your best bet - valid from Cardiff and covers the Valley lines from their
