Food and Drink
Enjoy our onboard catering services, or bring your own food
Enjoying a meal while you watch the world go by – it’s one of the best things about train travel, whether you bring your own snack or treat yourself to something onboard.
Many train companies have onboard catering facilities. These can include trolley services, counter buffet services and restaurant cars. The longer the journey, the more likely that there will be food and drink available on board.
You’re always welcome to bring your own food too. Why not have a little picnic onboard? Or share a birthday cake with friends?

EMR has a trolley service (I think just north of Nottingham) but it doesn't have seat reservations.EMR Liverpool to Norwich has, or had, both. I presume Scotrail Inter7City has them
only place i have bought an on train ice cream! The Settle & Carlisle trolley is excellent.
It is. And as it's a fundraiser for the Friends of the S&C I'm always happy to spend liberally when I see it.The Settle & Carlisle trolley is excellent.
just a shame it isn't a 37/47 and a couple of miss match liveried mkii's!It is. And as it's a fundraiser for the Friends of the S&C I'm always happy to spend liberally when I see it.
No; as above the Portsmouth services lost them as a result of Covid, and Penzance has none, even the IETs run without catering crew.Do any Cardiff – Penzance (or Portsmouth?) services have catering?
Liverpool - Norwich has a trolley Grantham - Liverpool with some shorter trolley runs at the start/end of the day. Some trollies to Norwich are being trialled.EMR has a trolley service (I think just north of Nottingham) but it doesn't have seat reservations.
Scotrail theoretically has catering, but it's in such a state at the minute that they're still having to list the trains that do have catering. It's quite a short list.

My brother has just travelled the Far North Line and confirms the trolley is alive and well. There has certainly been a trolley on some of the Wick/Thurso - Inverness services in the past when I've used them, I assume this is still the case.
Similarly Scotrail do offer / have offered reservations on this route, as well as the Glasgow - Oban / Mallaig route.
Crosscountries voyager services have reservations and trolley service, I wouldn't really count those as "regional" though they do avoid London. I think their turbostar services also have seat reservations and sometimes catering.
Pretty sure TPE have reservations and trolley service on most of their trains.
Northern bought trains with reservation displays for their "northern connect" services but I don't think they ever actually commisioned them. A handful of northern services have trolley services provided by the "friends of the settle and carlisle" but I'm pretty sure that is the only catering on their network.
I think TFW have seat reservations and catering on some services, but I'm not sure which.
No reservations on TfW currently.I think several TfW routes have catering including a proper first class dining car on some Cardiff to Manchester trains.

Not any more. They did when the electric Hitachis first appeared. Disappeared at Covid and haven't come back.Do any Glasgow-Edinburgh via Falkirk trains have catering?
Makes sense considering how short the journey time is.Not any more. They did when the electric Hitachis first appeared. Disappeared at Covid and haven't come back.
Someone said or posted somewhere there was a trolley on the shuttle. I guess it was fake news. Not any more. They did when the electric Hitachis first appeared. Disappeared at Covid and haven't come back.
Pre covid there used to be an ice cream trolley between Soton and Weymouth on the 444s in the Summer. Does this still happen or is it long gone?only place i have bought an on train ice cream!
Do any Glasgow-Edinburgh via Falkirk trains have catering? I haven’t encountered a trolley in a while on that service even though before electrification every train seemed to have a trolley
No longer catering on SWR. They ended the contract with Rail Gourmet.Pre covid there used to be an ice cream trolley between Soton and Weymouth on the 444s in the Summer. Does this still happen or is it long gone?
There was definitely a trolley both ways the last time I took the Edinburgh-Glasgow express, a couple of months ago.I’m sure I read somewhere that catering trolleys have returned very recently to the Edinburgh-Glasgow express services. For the life of me can’t find it.
