Right, I'm trying to build up a list of all the recent alternative propulsion systems experiments and projects in the UK. I think I've got most of them, but I'm sure others might have slipped through the net.

I'll exclude bi-modes as they're now well-established, and the basic principle was proven by the Class 73s years ago. On top of that, I think we have...

  • VivaRail D-Train - diesel, battery and hybrid versions
  • Artemis DVT conversion, trialled at Bo'ness
  • Parry People Mover probably counts. :)
  • Battery Electrostar trial
  • Class 769 project
  • Alstom Breeze hydrogen project (class 321 conversion)
  • HST power car battery project a few years ago? Don't know much about that one.
  • Forthcoming Stadler FLIRT tri-modes for TfW
  • Merseyrail and Tyne and Wear Metro replacement trains - am I right in thinking at least some of them are trialling battery technology?
Off the top of my head, that seems to be the main ones. Any I've missed?
