hi all,

I've been offered an RCO position, induction is due on the 15th, How sort of long did anyone wait for a start date? Is it typically right after induction or are we talking weeks?

Yes, that should be your start date. I’ve never known an induction to mean anything else. Congrats!

Hi!

Congrats!

Just got my offer for RCO with GTR I have to undergo a medical test before I start, at this point they won’t be able to give me an appointment due to Covid. May I ask have you started your role? And how are the shift patterns.

Hiya having looked this seems like an old thread in parts. Well done on your job offer as am RCO.
I am awaiting confirmation on my result from the online assessment that I had completed in March, but assuming because of the current Covid situation that might be why I am still yet to hear anything?
What station had you applied to work? Is an RCO another name for Gate Line? Are the duties similar? Sorry for all the questions hahahaha

yeah recruitment are currently on a slow with processing so don’t worry too much.

RCO (revenue control officer) is a fancy name for gateline, with the added benefit of revenue trained so you will use mobile tablets and be able to do nearly all tickets much like a ticket office can. You will also be penalty fare trained and MG11, MG11’s are more of a dark horse penalty fare which can betaken to court etc.. but that will all be explained to you in training

hey,

I started my RCO role last year on may 13th, still going about it but due to a move I am now waiting to potentially go to a conductor grade with southern.

shifts vary heavily between stations, which station were you offered? I assume it is Bedford if Thameslink

Oh yeah Radlett is my neighbour station as I’m Elstree, great people there and nice and quiet too, they seem happy there but I couldn’t tell you the rosters at the moment as they are currently reduced due to covid but nobody has complained

Hey peeps,

I've just been informed that didn't get to the next stage in the recruitment process for RCO! I got as far as the online test which I took mid March!! So will keep my eyes open for future vacancies within the railway.

Sorry to hear. I’m not sure if your within the railway already, but either way, no doubt you’ve heard how difficult it can be! It’s not just Driver and Guard roles that are well sought after. Good luck for future applications and ask if you need any advice from us!

Heya,

Yeah I thought I'd done okay in the online test to be honest so was shocked to receive the generic 'sorry we are not progressing your application any further' due to the number of applications received! I took the online test on the 17th March so a while ago which made me think I might of been okay hahaha!! Oh well like I said before, I'll keep me eyes open for future vacancies as I'm not currently in the Railway.

honestly it happens to the best don’t take it to heart, it’s hard to get into the railway due to how many people want the jobs but apply toas much as you can and you’ll have a good shot, all I say to everyone is research and apply, dedicate yourself to it and it will pay off for you!
Good luck and if I see any GN or TL North vacancies I’ll let you know as I’m always looking too internally

Hi I was wondering about people’s experience with the ROC medical I’m waiting for mine and I am a little nervous for it as I am quite a heavy person but I have no health issues and not impaired mobility
What do you test and what can you be failed on ?
Thank you

If it’s for this role I doubt it’ll be much more than a D&A test and a quick checkup as it’s not classed as safety critical.
