I am starting a new job in Hemel Hempstead and live near Streatham, Streatham Common stations and also near Tooting Bec tube.

There is a connection generally from Clapham Junction it seems just getting to CJ is the thing, and the very occasional completely direct train back to Streatham Common, I think on the way back. Mi'll be doing normal hours but a, told there may be some flexibility to alter hours.

Being not far from Tooting Bec tube I could just go to Euston and connect from there.

So question one is most efficient route. Question two is connected of course and it is what ticket to buy and how much? Added to this I may have meetings in Central London.

There seems to be a HH to London zone 2. Does this mean I can't use the Euston option ever.

Including all inner London zones seems to be 1k more? Or is it easier to do that and then not worry how I get to and from?

And who do I buy the ticket from?

Thanks

If your ticket is from Hemel Hempstead to London Zone 2 you will not be able to use it to travel via Euston, as Euston is in Zone 1. If you tried to use it at Euston, it would not work the automatic barriers and you would get into trouble for not having a valid ticket.

A travelcard must be valid for all the zones travelled through, even if you do not get on or off in that zone.

The only feasible route for a ticket Hemel Hempstead to Zone 2 is from Clapham Junction via Willesden Junction and Watford Junction. You would have less choice with that route, and no flexibility in the case of disruptions.

Personally I would get the ticket that is valid via Zone 1. OK it is more expensive, but you could use it at evenings and weekends to travel into Central London.
