Afternoon,

Passed the RTC by train for the second time in a week today and noticed some Royal Train Mk3 carriages there. I think some have had their black livery removed as well.

Does anyone know which ones are there? What they are doing there and how long they’ll be there please?

Many thanks

That's not the Royal Train - it's probably the former DB Cargo Management Train, listed as stored at Toton but could have moved to Derby.

Should be three carriages plus a DVT if so...

Are you definitely sure with that?

I only managed to get one number, 2920, which I understood was one of the Royal Train Carriages at Wolverton?

It definitely seemed like there were more than three.

2920 is a Royal Train Mk2 vehicle - a converted brake first with a diesel generator. The 'black' livery is actually a very dark claret, which can look black in dull conditions.

I don’t know what the carriage numbers are or where they’ve come from. But from what I understand there are 3 coaches at the RTC that are being prepared for the Great Gathering. They will have Great Gathering advertising on and be hauled around the country for the event.

Don’t shoot the messenger :D

Now that's news - and very interesting news...

2920 and 2921, mentioned above, are couchettes for the household staff, so could certainly be used as accommodation for staff accompanying an exhibition train.

Are you definitely sure with that?
Clearly not!!! That must still be at Toton - unless it's going to become part of this exhibition train...

I’m going up the bank tomorrow so will see if I can see them.

2920 was moved from Wolverton to Derby RTC on 26/6/24, no report of it yet returning.

The Mk.3s for the Rail 200 exhibition train are 10406, 11092, 11093 and 11101. These are also at Derby and last pictured in pale grey (undercoat?).

That will be interesting - I trust you have a big zoom lens? :)

For the record, anything 29xx will be a Royal Train vehicle, anything with a five digit number will be the DB Management Train - the liveries are very similar...

Interesting.

Do you know why 2920 is there?

I’m pretty sure there is another one still in the Royal Train livery down near Deadman’s Lane.

Ah... Those are former Greater Anglia ones aren't they?

It must have been those that I heard had been moved...?

I thought they were previously at Gascoigne Wood?

10406, 11092, 11093, 11101 were ex Greater Anglia, they were most recently used on the short-lived Hanson & Hall railtours before being sold to Network Rail. They have spent time at Gascoigne Wood amongst other places. This drone video shows three of them two weeks ago

11039 - 10211-10546 still round the back at Toton with DVT 82146
No fitness to run without work, surprised they have not been offered for disposal, some unique interiors including a full double bed in sleeper car

I note DB Cargo have had thier Royal Warrant to operate and maintain the royal train renewed by King Prince Charles

His Majesty King Charles III has awarded DB Cargo UK the Royal Warrant to maintain and operate the royal train.

DB Cargo has had the royal warrant since privatisation, meaning they have had the warrant for more than 30 years.

67005 also renamed ‘Kings Messenger’.
67006 name remains unchanged.

Surprised to see 67005 hasn’t been modified (or repainted) yet, I’d have thought it could have been done while at Derby. Though Toton will no doubt change it in due course.

The whole consist just came through Northampton with both 67s as 1Z53 (according to Traksy) but nowhere to be seen on realtime trains.

Think the train was last used by William and Kate on a national tour.
The royal family have been using helicopters a lot, but given Charles's "green" credentials and he has to take a less busy schedule, the train might be used more in future.
