Looking for some fares advice please.

Needing to travel from Runcorn to Oxenholme Lake District on Saturday 6th October.
Leaving Runcorn around 11am and returning from Oxenholme after 17:30.

What would be the cheapest way to do this journey? Via Crewe or via Liverpool?

Thanks in advance

Do you need to start from Runcorn? It takes about 2 hours to get to Oxenholme from there, compared with 1h 10 min from Runcorn East. Traveline suggests catching a bus to Warrington, but that isn't much quicker than the train, and I don't know how much it costs or how reliable it is.

An off peak day return from Liverpool South Parkway to Oxenholme (which you can catch from Runcorn if you go via Crewe) costs £22.70, and one from Runcorn East or Frodsham costs £22.90.

Thanks for this.

Apologies for the daft question but for the off peak day return from south parkway when you say I can catch from Runcorn if I go via Crewe what services does this mean?
Runcorn East isn’t an option unfortunately given how far away from Runcorn it is.

This looks like a good option, thanks.

If you had an off peak return from Liverpool South Parkway to Oxenholme, you could make the journey with one change in Crewe. This ticket has no "break of journey" restriction, which means that you can start or stop part way along the length of your route, so long as you do everything in the right order (use the outward bit before the return, and so on). In particular, you can use the outward part to go from Runcorn to Oxenholme via Crewe, and the return to make the reverse journey.

You can't go from Runcorn to Oxenholme via Liverpool South Parkway, as that would have to be part of a Liverpool South Parkway-Runcorn-Liverpool South Parkway-Oxenholme route, and that's not permitted.

I realise Runcorn isn't that close to any other station, but I thought I should say something because, for all I knew, you could have been planning to drive to the station from Sutton Weaver or somewhere and only said Runcorn because that's the station you usually use. Stranger things have happened.

This is super thanks and looks like the best option.

I did look first at the price of a Runcorn to Oxenholme off peak return but it seemed quite high.
