This will be for return travel on a Sunday, no rail cards, Can't use megatrain as tickets not available on a sunday. Will leave on a Friday in April 2012 return sunday

A return is £36.70

A single is £30.80

Groupsave no good as only two pax Adults

I intend to try and get the megatrain for around £7.50 for 2 pax on the friday going up there but it looks like a return fare is going to be cheaper. I tried via Woking.

Advances seem like they could be useful, but they aren't on sale yet for that journey.

I take it I can't get the fare down for this journey!

IF you can go via Farnborough the following combination saves a couple of quid. I'm using 2011 prices (as you appear to be), so the actual fares may be higher next year,

Off Peak Day Return
£34.10
Saves £2.50

Off Peak Day Return

SALISBURY to GRATELEY
Fare £5.20
Route ANY PERMITTED
Restriction (UQ)
Shortest Route

Off Peak Day Return

GRATELEY to FARNBOROUGH STNS
Fare £12.10
Route ANY PERMITTED
Restriction (US)
Shortest route

Off Peak Day Return
FARNBOROUGH STNS to WOKING
Fare £6.00
Route ANY PERMITTED
Restriction (US)
Shortest route

Off Peak Day Return

WOKING to TWICKENHAM
Fare £10.80
Route NOT LONDON
Restriction (US)
Shortest route

Just to note that will restrict the OP to the hourly service that calls at Grately due to the fact that the train must call at the stations where you change from one ticket to another.

Would a Network card be any good if you are going to travel after 10 Mon - Fri or at weekends within the south east occasionally?

It's worse that that by the looks, because the OP is travelling on a Sunday (which I missed) so the Grately service is even more restricted.

I think I would stick to the through ticket, if I were the OP.

Yep every 2 hours on Sunday.

Its rather difficult trying to find cheap fares down here when heading towards London.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Sailsbury - Basingstoke CDR £14.30 valid after 08:45 (UQ)

Basingstoke - Twickenham SCO £17.70 valid after 12:00 (BE) - possibly changed to trains that arrive into London after 12:00 from January as I seem to remember.

Return restriction for Basingstoke - Twickenham SCO:

RETURN TRAVEL;

By any train except those
timed to depart:

London Terminals (except
Vauxhall) between 1100 and
1559 (incl.), or at 1901 or
later.

Vauxhall between 1103 and 1603
(incl.), or at 1905 or later.

Paddington between 1100 and
1559 (incl.), or at 1916 or
later.

Clapham Junction between 1109
and 1606 (incl.), or at 1910
or later.

Total: £32:00 - but quite restrictive.
