Afternoon folks. Has anyone sat the following tests with ScotRail?

-Mechanical Comprehension
-Technical Understanding
-Visual Estimation

Are they difficult? Is it a high passmark required? These tests are not for the job of a train driver but something different. The Scaat test is also involved but I have done that before many years ago. The practice material they send you for the mechanical comprehension test consists of only 4 questions with the rest of the tests being 7-10 practice questions. Also do you find out your results on the day or are you sent home and emailed your results?

Thanks for any advice.

I've sat these tests for a different rail company. The mechanical side is generally fairly easy.

Which way does gear d turn if a is turned clockwise.

When string c is pulled which way will weight move.

To pass it is generally better to answer less answers but get them correct but there will still be a minimum number of course.

Our TOC gets you to sit several tests, then give you a pass or fail. If you pass you stay for the next round.

I did these with Scotrail about 2 years ago. They are quite straight forward.

The trickiest one for me was the visual estimation as it can take a good few seconds to figure out which shapes are the exact same. If you feel like it take too long then skip to the next question. As you know its better to skip a question rather than guess and get it wrong. I found out my result the same day.

As for the pass mark I dont think anyone knows. I basically answered the questions I was sure were correct and then I had time to go back and review the questions that I wasnt 100% on

What position are you going for?

Thanks for the reply, I went for a shunters job, I'm absolutely dreading failing one part then facing the walk of shame. The mechanical will be the downfall of me I think, I need to get my head round it.

Hey, thanks for your reply and info. Hopefully they are easy questions, or easy to understand if you do struggle a bit with that sort of thing. I agree re the less is better, rushing through these leads to mistakes.
