Season ticket from Fareham instead of Swanwick - cheaper but still valid?

I need a season ticket between Swanwick and Bank (London), that does not just use Southern trains. This effectively means I need any permitted route with London Z1-6 which costs £6040/year.

However I have discovered that the equivalent ticket from Fareham costs only £5624. I believe this will entitle me to travel from/to Swanwick on routes via e.g. Southampton and Havant to Waterloo, but not perhaps via Reading to Paddington (which I can’t see myself ever needing to use anyway) as according to the routeing guide, Fareham is only in Portsmouth Group, not Southampton Group. So effectively it just means that I will save over £400/year by getting a season ticket from Fareham instead of Swanwick.

I contacted SWT last month to confirm if this would be valid but they have quoted me 28 days to provide a response (which seems a bit ridiculous to answer a ticket validity question, but there you go). So I thought I would ask here for some advice to confirm if my assumptions are correct?

Searching around previously I have also seen it suggested that such a ticket may also entitle me to travel via Brighton, which doesn’t seem like a reasonable route to me but would be good to know in case we want to take a day trip or similar.

Cheers.

According to NRE, Fareham to Waterloo via Southampton Central is not a permitted route whereas a Swanwick ticket does permit travel via Southampton.

Where have you got your fare from?
A Fareham to London zones 1-6 Annual Travelcard is £9108 any permitted (southern only £7716)
A Swanwick to London zones 1-6 Annual Travelcard is £9828 any permitted (southern only £7716)

Sorry, first class fares quoted above.

Owlman, I think that you are quoting 1st class prices whereas the OP was quoting standard class prices.

I had a similar question to ask of SWT a couple of years or so ago. I have cause to travel once a week from Basingstoke or Winchester to Netley for rugby training. At one time I was allowed to travel via Fareham or Southampton Central (there is an easement allowing doubling back between St Denys to Southampton Central). The connections worked that much better via Fareham. Travelling via Fareham after finishing work meant I could get to the sports ground in Netley in good time.

At some point over the last few years tickets from Winchester and north thereof to Fareham became dearer to purchase than to Swanwick and Netley because of the pricing structure adopted by SWT. The routing to Netley via Fareham was made a non permitted route for the through fare as a consequence of people obtaining tickets to Swanwick and Netley but only travelling to Fareham. Thanks to these people instead of two trains an hour to choose from I now only have the one and am always late for training. It also added a lot more time to my journey home because of waiting time between connections at Southampton. :(

At least I now know who to blame.

Why does it show up on the jouney planner?
E.g. 07:00 from Fareham goes through Swanwick at 07:06 and then change at Soithampton to get the 07:30 to Waterloo.

Yes the itinerary is shown on the NRE Journey Planner. However, if the itinerary is selected it shows that more than one ticket is required to take this route:-

"You need to buy multiple tickets for this journey"

i.e. the route is not permitted.

Thanks for the explantion. Looks like i'll be getting the £6040 ticket then - at least I shan't have to worry about being challenged and it should give me a few leisure possibilities such as the Southern route to Victoria.
