The bosses of Network Rail have been accused of paying millions of pounds of taxpayers’ money in compensation to staff, including payments for allegations of race and sex discrimination by one of the firm’s senior executives.

Up to 100 staff of the publicly funded firm that owns Britain’s rail system are said to have received pay-offs after signing confidentiality clauses that prevent them from speaking publicly about why they have left the company.

Dozens are said to have received six-figure sums and three senior employees are thought to have been paid between £450,000 and £850,000.

Yesterday, the company hired the £450-an-hour showbusiness law firm Schillings in an abortive attempt to gag The Mail on Sunday.

The word shambles comes to mind after all its our tax payers dosh paying
it, suppose the board will recieve £3k a day pension, that seems the going
rate for failure.

the quote says it all An internal investigation – ordered by Network Rail chief executive Ian Coucher – upheld claims that the executive made politically incorrect remarks and behaved inappropriately.

But it said no action was necessary as he had not acted ‘maliciously’ and because of his overall record.

I love the passage at the bottom of that page entitled "Britain's shoddy stations, by the Transport Minister"... taking what Adonis said totally out of context.

Typical Daily Fail.

To end up as a near complete shambles like this is more than bad... To then end up hiring in a £450 an hour law firm to block a newspaper.. thats well...

all i can really say is im shocked...

Given the apparent extreme right views of the disgraced NR executive, he's probably one of the Daily Mail's biggest fans (or was until today!). How ironic.

Network Rail would probably have booked the firm well into the start of the week, £450 plus 15% vat another £60 plus on top,
There is always a minimum of two consultants per job, so thats £1k x
hours plus other expenses, well over £100k, but thats peanuts to
those who live in an unreal world. Now had it been a cleaner saying a naughty word, immediate sack.
