Good afternoon,
so I have a couple of questions, i have applied for a job as a signaller in Doncaster around a week ago. Firstly, I have worked in the motor industry all my working life, and I wanted to take a completely different direction and do something more mentally challenging. I applied based on the fact that you can do an apprenticeship and learn for 12 months before the job. How challenging is the job? I applied through network rail and on my job status says application accepted so I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not? And I’ve seen that the process before is quite hard, i.e tests, interviews and so on. Is there anything i could do to help my interview and test? Like researching different things? I would really like this job and would just like some advice! Thanks guys!

As a starter for 10, the company you have applied for is called Network Rail not National Rail. If you have not already done so have a look at this page on their website - https://www.networkrail.co.uk/campaigns/signalling-opportunities/

As per the post above mine, have a look at the A Career As A Signaller thread which says everything there is to say about the job.

Hi, I’m not a signaller, but bear in mind the “learning for 12 months” is largely on the job, and the training before this is 12 weeks I believe?

In fairness, every day is a school day. I'm still learning things, as a signalman, after twenty years.

Good morning all,

Just wanted to check as I couldn't see a definitive answer. I gather this job is safety critical. Do you need to have 50:50 binocular vision?
