Hi everyone, i am currently awaiting the outcome of my final interview for a grade 3 signaller position. I was wondering if anyone knows a rough idea of when the signaller training is run ? for example is it every 12 weeks or is there more than 1 course ran at one time and if there is usually a particular set of months they fall onto ?

Im obviously waiting patiently on the outcome but i would like to be able to keep work informed of the rough timelines i need to work to as i will be coming out of the armed forces pretty sharpish ?

thanks in advance.

Its hurry up and wait I'm afraid - it could be a few days or it could be many months away. Absolutely no way to tell until you hear from your LOM. It also depends on how quickly he/she needs the post filled.

cheers mate so to confirm there isnt a usual cycle that the signaller training schools are run , regardless of the implications that the pandemic has had on recruitment

There are schools all over the country and in theory you could be sent to any of them, although most likely you’ll head to your closest school.
There’s multiple courses at most schools but because of social distancing they can take fewer people per course so it could be a long wait - I seem to remember people getting jobs in Nov were getting dates in Feb/March.

I’m at York on Initial Signaller Training at the moment and I think there’s four of these courses in various stages being run here concurrently. Some have 10 people on the course and some have fewer so the social distancing can be maintained. There’s obviously a few locations as well so plenty of courses going on.

Not that this helps you much as I don’t know what the ‘queue’ is like for courses!

Even if you are due to have a long wait for your course date your LOM might still take you on a bit earlier if he or she has a pre-course training plan put together or needs to fill a crossing keeper’s gap for a month or so. Definitely worth asking if your notice period from the military is due to be up very soon and you’ll be out of work whilst waiting.

I'm starting on the 1st of Feb in Glasgow where as a friend is waiting to hear even after being told he has the job so things are moving in some places faster than others.

Just keep going and keep talking to them (LOM)

Edit: to change date as start moved forward
