Hello,

I am starting Signalling School soon and I will be working at the Willesden Carriage Sidings South Box (G3) located in Wembley. I was wondering if anyone knows any information regarding the area I will be working in and what block area I will be responsible for.

this box is located by Stonebridge Park Station (there is a walking route from the end of the platform).
Signalling here is still semaphore and Carriage South covers the south end of Wembley Intercity Depot, so from the Carriage Lines at Harlesden Jn end. There is six shed roads and the Marshalling Neck leads to roads 1-15.
It is quiet in the day but busier at night when all the Avanti stock gets cleaned and a quick check up.

I have inserted some images from Simsig simulator to get a better visual representation. Could you clarify which area I will be responsible for. Do you work in the area?

Thanks in advance.

Its the two lines that go off to the intercity depot above the Royal Mail terminus (PRDC).
those lines are the up carriage and down carriage and as mentioned above it splits at the South Box to all the sidings. There is also a ground frame and north box (which closes after the sleepers have been through the wash and stabled).
I do work on West Coast but not as a signaller...

Do you have any idea what the shift rotation is like there? is it 12 hr shifts or 8hr?

Any chance you could show an example of two weeks or a month's rotations? cheers mate
Sorry mate, can't help... I only know that from my unsuccessful interview for that box ;) However before I knew I'm not lucky to get this position I found these examples from other boxes which may be of some help for you:

South Box have a "gentlemans agreement" for shifts. They are:

05:30-12:30
12:30-20:30
20:30-05:30

Also just ask your Dad, hes been here for 12+ years ;)

Yes the class got 94+% in the exams because everyone got their head down and put the hours in. That is the only way to do it because there is a huge volume of information to learn. Start learning it early, don't wait until a week or two before the exams to memorise material. Some used mnemonics or acronyms to learn key information. I wrote out anything I needed to know verbatim and repeated it multiple times until it was fixed in my head. We had one or two revision sessions close to the exam, mainly just to check our knowledge and recall. If there's anything you don't understand ask the trainer because they are more than willing to help you. It might feel a little overwhelming a few weeks in but you will be absolutely fine if you put in the effort. It is definitely not a course you can coast through!
