2. A King lever is used to change the interlocking between other levers. An example of this is where an Electric Token Block line would switch out. Consider a signalman at Box B, the signamen at boxes A and C would both hold down their plungers and this would allow the signlman at Box B to move the king lever halfway. This would break down the link between the token instruments for sections A to B and B to C. This would also release the interlocking on the signal levers so the signals can be cleared on the single line for both directions. Once this is done the signalman can then move the King Lever all the way and this would allow the long section token instruments at boxes A and C to be conneted.

4. A red over yellow lever at a signal box is used where a single lever controls a stop and associated distant signal. An example of this would be a lever controlling Intermediate Block Section home and distant signals.

ANSWERS:

1:The proving of a distant signal arm at 'caution' and its related home signal arm at 'danger' before a signalman can place the rear section block indicator for that line to 'line clear'

2: A lever which, when operated, unlocks other levers often as a group, at a ground frame for example. If a ground frame is released from a signalbox it will be the king lever which is released as the key to the rest of the levers

3: Must be treated as a danger signal or caution if a backboard.

4:stop and distant signals worked from one lever (eg intermediate block signals)
