Someone more in the know might be able to answer more accurately but when the Sunday Victoria to Portsmouth ran via Worthing and split there with the Littlehampton portion, it was absolutely fine going Gatwick to Fratton via that route.Is a Southampton to Gatwick airport via Barnham ticket valid via Brighton? Or just via Horsham route?

Yes valid via Brighton but normally quicker to change at Barnham from Brighton-Southampton services onto a Portsmouth./Bognor to Victoria service. Barnham to Gatwick via Horsham is around 37 miles vice 47 via Brighton.
