Hi,

I've been asked to find out the cheapest way to get from Southampton Central to Par, so I immediately thought of this forum! :D This is for 1 adult with a Senior railcard, going over 3 days, say going out Friday coming back Sunday. Going out at any time between 10:00 and 13:00 ish, same coming back.

Southampton Central to Par Off Peak Return via Westbury is £44.20, but I cannot find any advance tickets available...

Can be any time in the next 3 months, no preference between weekdays or weekends.

Thanks in advance,

Robert

Have you tried 'splitting' at Westbury... or even Reading?

Reading would take longer and is only worth it if there are cheap XC advances available and none on the FGW Westbury-Southampton leg.

Advance Fares are Available :

AP Sailsbury ranging from £8.25 to £22.10
Great Western Only ranging from £3.95 to £21.80

are the only routes for Advance Purchase

(Fares above Quoted with Senior Railcard Discount)

Do you know when the £3.95 and £8.25 ones are? I've splitted at Westbury and I got it down to £37 in total.

If you book through the WebTis system such as www.redspottedhanky.com (who charge no booking or postage fess btw) put in Southampton Central-Par. Then click on select route in the bottom left of the page. Select via First Great Western trains only or via Salisbury. This will bring up some cheaper fares. Looking at random dates I can find them around £14 or less each way. It will just be a case of looking at suitable dates to find the cheapest.

When a new booking quota comes in these are the fares advertised at the start, once snapped up they go up and up in price.
