I absolutely hate what TfL have done to the Subsurface stock and Central line (and perhaps the other lines too, and I just haven’t noticed yet) in car maps, in that the classic yet very modern New Johnston has been modified so that there’s enormous spaces between each letter, and I think it’s bolder too, and frankly I just think they look really bad.
I get visibility and having clear to read signage is important, but the New Johnston font is and was already exactly that. The in car maps as they were are (to my personal view anyway) far clearer than publications done by GWR in Serif Glypha, or the pleasant but somewhat condensed font used by Avanti. I think it was an unnecessary mistake. The maps don’t look clearer to read, they just like they were printed oddly.
Had anyone else noticed?
