Hi everyone,

first of all, I apologize for my bad English.

I am a qualified train driver in Spain. Actually I work for a branch of a German-English railway company (sure you guessed which one ;))

Since I think my license is not valid out of Spain (that's what I think), I would like to know how can I apply to any job offer abroad, mainly in the UK. Especially I also like to know about the possibilities of getting a job in railway within the UK being Spanish. I must say, that I'm suscribed to railwaypeople.com since last year, without being unsuccessful in my serarch :(

I also would like to work in Germany, but I don't speak german at all. So that's forgotten

Any hints on this? somebody can give me a way to start with?

Javi

Hi Javi,

I have a colleague from Spain, though I believe he wasn't a train driver before coming to the UK.

You're right that your qualification to drive trains in Spain will be no good here in the UK. If you get a driving post you will have to start all over again as a trainee. However, the fact that you are already a train driver should help in your application, so make sure you draw plenty of attention to it. It would also help if you can be more definate about your plans to move to the UK so that they can see you are serious about it and have an idea of when you might be available to start work.

I'm not sure that the Railwaypeople website is very good for drivers vacancies. The best option is to keep an eye on the websites of the companies you are interested in working for and apply to them directly. You could even phone/e-mail them to explain your intentions and get an idea if they have any plans for recruitment in the future.

Best of luck!!!

One other thing to note is that UK companies that train new drivers usually hold lists of prospective applicants ready for when vacancies come up. So don't wait for vacancies to be advertised but contact the companies you might be interested in working for and make your interest known.

thanks for you help mates,

I see you have lots of railway companies in UK, so where could I have a list of all of them?

And, O L Leigh, you say you have a spanish colleague, could you tell him to contact me here so we maybe have a chat about this, it will be very helpful for me.

Thanks again, I will keep posting my doubts here!
