Hi all,

I have been following a couple of threads, and honestly I found them very useful. Thanks a lot to all!

My question is quite silly for the people used to commuting from outside London. Very soon I will be moving to St Albans and currently working in Mayfair five days per week.

I therefore understand that the cheapest option would be a monthly (or seasonal ticket) from St Albans (either city or abbey) to Zone 2 (either West Hampstead or Euston - I think the first would be better)?

if anyone can confirm my understanding, or has any other cost effective option, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks!!!!

A.G.

Euston is in Zone 1 not 2. A season from St Albans Abbey is also valid from City into St Pancras, but is £5pw more expensive (£10 more than W.H.)

How are you planning to travel from West Hampstead to Mayfair? Bus?

Hi! Thanks for the replies!

As far as I understand, travelcard zones for metro / bus are 1-2 so it won't make much of a difference.

I will be travelling to Green Park by tube, so the most sensible thing would be dropping off at West Hampstead and then Jubilee line until Green Park

My question is if the monthly or seasonal pass is the cheapest option for this.

Thanks!!!!

XD XD

If you are to live close to the Abbey station then there is some sense in considering using it, but be aware it only has a service at about 45 minute intervals. (Single line to Watford, no passing loop - although there is considerable local agitation to restore the latter at Bricket Wood were it once was.)
The City station has a much more frequent service of trains, both fast and slow, running into London. There is a short walk involved at West Hampstead, I think a bit less than the significant distance between the St Pancras Thameslink station and the Victoria line, which would also take you to Green Park.

It's a little cheaper to get a St. Albans-zones 1-6 travelcard (even the "also available at St. Albans Abbey" version) than it would be to get (say) a St. Albans-West Hampstead season and a zone 1-2 travelcard.

Travelcards from outside zone 6 are usually priced so that it doesn't make sense to split them.

Sorry, misunderstood totally, and thought you were trying to get a cheaper ticket than a Travelcard. That's why I asked about using the bus.

As kieron says, if you are planning on getting a Travelcard, just buy one from St Albans.

Actually, don't! Buy a St Albans to zones 5-6 travelcard and a separate zones 1-4 travelcard (unless you really want to be able to use the Abbey line). Saves £4.30/week or £172/year.
