I have a Devon and Cornwall railcard and have tried to use it several times to buy a discounted St Ives Bay Day Ranger. The literature for the railcard states that you get "1/2 off St Ives Bay Line Day Ranger". The day ranger (adult) is £4 so I would expect to pay £2.

However, I have never been successful, always being sold a £2 return ticket. I have queried this and been told that this is all that is available. However, the child version does seem to be available for £1 rather than the £2 normal rover fare. Whilst the guards have said to use it like a rover, I fear that one day I will be challenged on this.

I have had exactly the same issue buying at St Erth from the ticket office and on the train.

Anybody have any access to see if the machines can sell a discounted rover and, if not, any ideas why not?

Thanks,

Roy

I have just set it up on my Avantix mobile machine, and it lets me apply the discount without any problem.

It's now issued as a return rather than the rover because it is quicker and easier to do. However it is still valid as a rover.

Discount shows up fine on FasTIS for both the Off-Peak Day Return and Day Ranger too.

Cheers,

Thanks for the replies.

It is interesting that the range of tickets available seems different to those that station staff will tell you are available. The link to the other thread was very interesting, especially to read about passenger figures.

Thanks again,

Roy
