Hey Guys,

I wanted to know where I could view detailed restrictions for the TFL Staff Nominee passes, more specifically I want to travel through an overground station, it has the regular overground trains and the southern ones.
If I was to travel through the station and a southern train came before the first ones, would I be required to wait for the next regular one?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated,
Echore

You'd be best off asking the person whose nominee you are for the detailed conditions, which should be easy as you live at the same address as them.

The person whose nominee you are can look up the terms and conditions on TfL's intranet. As far as I know the TnCs aren't available on a public facing website, but basically you can take TfL or TfL-contracted services and not much else.

The answer to that question is no. I’ll have a look on the intranet and post the list of routes you can use.

Hi! Thanks so much for this, the person that nominated me is out at work right now and usually they can't respond due to not getting signal, so I decided to just post here hoping to get a response.

Yes, you would have to wait for the next Overground service.

A TfL nominee pass isn't the same as a Travelcard. You can only travel on TfL operations and concessions, i.e. Underground, DLR, TfL Rail, Overground, Tramlink and red London Buses.

That means it's valid in some places that are outside Greater London or even the Zones (e.g. Reading) when using TfL services. But, even within Greater London, it's not valid on non-TfL operators (e.g. Southern).

Sorry, to clarify I meant no, your pass won’t be valid on Southern trains! And there are stories floating about of the rules being enforced on that part of the network, it’s not worth risking it either.

Thanks so much for the response, I'll definitely be sure to wait for the next regular overground service, would you happen to have a pdf or something that outlines every line that I can use the pass on? Thanks :)

The standard "Tube" map is really a map of TfL services (with the exception of the Buses obviously). You can use any service shown on there, except Thameslink and the Emirates Air Line as they are not TfL operated.

and the Emirates Air Line as they are not TfL operated.

Staff and nominee Oyster cards give free travel on all TfL’s rail services (Tube, DLR, London Overground and TfL Rail), and London’s bus and tram services. It also allows free travel on selected National Rail services (standard class only) between the following stations:

Amersham – Marylebone
Finsbury Park - Moorgate (via Drayton Park only)
Fenchurch Street – Upminster
Stratford - Liverpool Street
Kentish Town - Elephant & Castle or London Bridge
Euston - Watford Junction
Staff and nominee Oyster cards also give you discounted travel on other operators’ services, including:
Thames Clipper Services (staff-rates available)
Emirates Air Line (Oyster fares apply)

How are you supposed to use it on those two whilst staff pass doesn't have a money value on it?

Show them your staff pass and they sell you a discounted ticket. I believe you can also use the app and add a discount on the boats.

You can't use your pass to tap in/out

Is it a buses nominee pass or (for employees of companies like metroline) or is it a tfl pass

If it is a tfl nominee pass you can use it on some non tfl national rail services between the following locations

  1. Elephant and castle and Kentish town
  2. London Euston to Watford Junction
  3. Marylebone-Amersham
  4. Fenchurch street - upminster
  5. Liverpool street-Stratford (No point using it on this as these two destinations are well served by tfl service)
  6. Liverpool Street-Upminster (When fenchurch street is closed for engineering works )
You cannot use it on these services if you have a buses nominee pass

Show them your staff pass and they sell you a discounted ticket. I believe you can also use the app and add a discount on the boats.

The discount on the Emirates airline is the same as the oyster discount there is no point showing your pass if you have a contactless or oyster card

Hey! Its a TFL Nominee Pass (So not busses), my enquiry was about travelling between two stations within London (They have regular overground and occasionally the southern trains go through both), so I was just confused as to if I would have to wait for the next regular overground or just use the southern train. After the responses here I'll just be safe and take a regular overground unless told otherwise by a staff member at the stations.

You can use a TfL staff pass on Thameslink between Kentish Town and Elephant and Castle or London Bridge.

Though it once took me half an hour to get out of London Bridge when a member of staff there (not Thameslink staff) refused to believe me or ask Thameslink staff).

This very much depends .shepherds Bush to Clapham junction you cannot use the southern train

Watford junction to Wembley central you can use the southern train.

All other examples you cannot use the train

You can use a TfL staff pass on Thameslink between Kentish Town and Elephant and Castle or London Bridge.

Do the passes still not work the gateline at London Bridge?

Thanks for the help, between Shepherds Bush to Clapham Junction was the line of stations I was talking about.
I'll be sure to avoid the southern services, thanks!

I don't know. I no longer have one. When I had a problem they worked the gateline nearest the platforms for Thameslink but not others. After my problem, I only used the nearest gateline.
