Yes it is still open, and it definitely seems to still carry traffic, there's regularly a 66 at Ferry hill either coming off or on in my experience.

Yes it does, 6N71 has been down there today, routed each week day I believe.

So 50 minutes Stockton to Newcastle and that includes 15 minutes passing allowances. By comparison the Northern DMU takes 70+minutes via the coast. Great shame they never found a way to put on a Middlesbrough-Newcastle via Stockton and Durham service
