This thread may need moving, since the building I refer to is nothing to do with the railway...

Today I noticed a building I'd never noticed before and was intrigued.
I have no idea what it is and would appreciate it if anybody could enlighten as to what it is...
I've trawled through Google Earth looking for it but to no avail.
Located near to the West Coast Mainline, somewhere north of Crewe but located on the southbound side i.e East of the railway line- and almost certainly non railway related except for being visible from the train.

The building is tall and white, looks a bit like a observatory* or lighthouse, although given its location, there isn't much water.

Thanks

*I must point out in advance that I do not refer to Jodrell bank telescope.

Can you go back using Google maps and give us a link - if searching on Google Earth, there should be a set of coordinates

It's the Strategic Steam Reserve boiler overhaul building.

Seriously, sounds like the Winsford salt mine. If you've not had any joy finding it using Google Maps, give Bing Maps a try, they often have imagery with different angles, or different shadows, so something that appears to be missing on Google Maps will appear quite clearly on Bing Maps, and vice versa.

Thanks for the replies, I'm pretty sure it was Daresbury laboratory (I'll have another look when I pass it on Friday if its light enough).

If anybody else has any buildings that they want identifying, the floor is yours unless mods deem this should be locked.

Thanks again :)
