A colleague was recently stopped at the barriers at Harwich International [HPQ] with Super Off Peak singles to Edinburgh [EDB] routed via London (+ any permitted) for her and her child (both priv discounted).

She was refused travel with those tickets and was required to purchase new tickets to London Liverpool Street [LST]- she was refused an excess (as seemingly these are a "Scottish" thing and don't apply down south?). That said an excess to the Anytime fare would have been dearer than a new ticket to London so let's be thankful for small mercies - but as the child fare had already hit the maximum fare no additional cost would be payable for that ticket.

Just to confirm my understanding that a Super Off Peak for the journey in question HPQ via LST & KGX to EDB should have been valid for the 07:28 departure ex Harwich.

Many thanks for your attention.

I can't think of a reason that's not valid - it's a really easy one as the Network Rule places no restrictions on the "into London" element of such a journey so you don't even need to check ticket restriction codes (and GA has no staff restrictions).

Think it's http://nre.co.uk/9F but sure the ticket is fine. Someone's got their own firm's restrictions mixed up with ones going beyond London & GA should refund this asap.

Although the Network Rule no longer exists, the 9F restriction says nothing about leaving HPQ or any other GE station and doesnot restrict the time of arrival into London. The only relevant restrictions are on departure from King's Cross.

Hahahaha, the stuff that staff can come out with is genuinely hilarious. Thats a new one even on me. Hallucinogenic nonsense.

Yes, tell her to claim a refund and compensation for the inconvenience. Totally unacceptable. The restriction code is printed on the ticket, any schmuck can look it up.

Another fine example of “if you don’t know, charge more money” from the railway.

Unequivocally, yes.
