I bought a Super Sparpreis EU ticket from Essen to Luxembourg, which had a "binding" train of the 13:50 from Duesseldorf to Koblenz.

VIA:<1080>(date)NV*D-Hbf 13:50 IC5106/KO-Hbf*NV*Igel(Gr)<0082>

The ticket had a 2 day validity. Does this mean it was OK to break the journey in Koblenz for 24 hours or so?

I have heard mention that's it's necessary to complete the DB part of the journey on day 1. However most of the trains from Koblenz to Trier appear to be run by CFL anyway.

Koblenz to Trier services are run by DB until Trier. The CFL coaches then detach and are taken to Lux by a CFL crew.

Not sure about the validity.
