I can't see any reference to the Swiss Happy Birthday ticket which gave you unlimited travel on trains and local transport throughout Switzerland (and a few places outside Switzerland) on your birthday on the SBB website.

Has it been withdrawn?

I can't find it in the ticket shop either, although the web page is still there. Looks like it was just on sale during 2010, but send them a message to be sure.

"Here in Switzerland, your birthday is a truly special day: SBB and the other licensed public transport companies will be putting a crown on every passenger's head for their birthday in 2010 – with the Happy Birthday travelpass."

I emailed them and got the following reply:

Thank you for your query. (n° CC5658793)

The Happy Birthday ticket was a part of a leisure campaign. With the end of this campain by the end of 2011, the offer was taken from the selection and is not available any more.

Thanking you for your understanding.

Kind regards
Lukas Schmitt

Such a shame...I lived in Switzerland for a few years not long ago and I wanted to take the (new ;)) missus there for a trip on her birthday this year....so this is a bit of a downer!

Are they doing any other deals at all? I can´t really afford to pay for both of us over (rather I don´t want to) there and I know how expenive it is now...saying that, how good is their rail system!!?? Worth the money I´d say....wish it could come to England :)

I am picturing HM the Queen getting hauled off for fare evasion, after claiming to have two birthdays :(

Some options include:

Swiss Pass

Interrail One Country Pass (only includes trains and not other transport like the Swiss Pass)

Half Fare Card, but only worth it if you make several day trips per year. The Half Fare Card enables you to get a day ticket for unlimited travel.

International tickets (e.g. Zurich to Milan) can be very cheap if booked well in advance.

Supersaver tickets (similar to the GB Advance fares) give up to 60% off regular domestic single tickets.

Some regions have day tickets covering all PT, such as the Zurich canton.

hmm okay, thanks for providing a large quantity of options for me. I will take a detailed look at it all.....and make some decisions.

Maybe I will opt for a cheaper option....a week-end away in Scotland perhaps? I´ve heard the rail system is pretty good up there :P
