Hi, I am confused with the Delay Repay compensation.

I am a season ticket holder with SWR and I used to get discounts for void days (delays) when I renewed it.

Do I no longer get discounts automatically when I renew it but do I have to claim through Delay Repay each time when a delay occurs?

Or does the Delay Repay compensation work on top of discounts for void days and performance?

Thanks,
Kaz

Delay Repay replaces the old system, and yes you have to make a separate claim for each qualifying delay.

I assume yes. However, in my case, in order to get a 5% discount, I need 8 times of 15-29 mins single journey delays a month. Let's see how this scheme will be panned out in the long term.

For customers who purchased (or renewed) their annual season ticket on SWR before 4th September 2017, the old passenger charter compensation methods still apply. Having read SWR website today, my interpretation of this is as follows:

Customers in possession of an annual season ticket purchased before September 4th 2017

1: From September 1st 2017 through to and including November 30th 2017, you could have claimed via delay repay for any delays proven to be more than 30 minutes. Because you must claim via delay repay within 28 days, as I write this today, you can now claim for delays dating back to 17th of November 2017.

2: From December 1st 2017 onward you can claim under delay and repay for delays proven to be more than 15 minutes.

3: In addition to the above delay repay refund methods, you are able to claim for void days in the usual ways below, presumably up until the expiration of your annual season ticket, which could be as late as September 3rd 2018 (for those who bought an annual on 3rd September 2017):

A) Upon renewal of your annual season ticket you can be refunded for all void days then.
B) You can approach a ticket office at any point throughout the duration of your annual season and demand immediate payment for all void days on your route. The number of void days for your service group can be found online by checking performance stats on SWR website for each period. Currently for example, service group 4 on SWR has had 20+ void days for the last 12 month period, which on an annual season worth say £4k, is worth a significant amount. Hundreds of pounds.

4: You can claim a discount on a renewal of your annual season ticket (subject to the condition of it being for the same route) worth either 5%, or, 10%. Again this is a significant amount for a lot of people, often hundreds. This is calculated by the performance charter for reliability and punctuality. If one falls under the threshold of expected performance, then it is 5%. If both fall under, it becomes 10%. This is only a discount for renewals and cannot be taken as a separate refund.

Customers in possession of an annual season ticket purchased after September 4th 2017

Methods 1 and 2 above under delay and repay apply only. No continued charter performance refund/discounts apply.

The only thing I am unsure about is this statement above: "...presumably up until the expiration of your annual season ticket, which could be as late as September 3rd 2018 (for those who bought an annual on 3rd September 2017)"

I don't know if this is capped at up until September 4th 2017, or if it continues until ticket expiry. I believe the latter by the way it is talked about on the website and that they keep publishing their performances each month.
