Stupidity at play here. Was at Charing Cross, used my debit card to tap in at platform 4. Realised I needed platform 5. Staff let me out. I went to platform 5 but it didn't let me tap in, and a staff member tapped me in. Will I be charged twice?

Probably not - did you tap out at your destination in the usual fashion?

Sounds like you’ve only had one successful tap in.

Worst case scenario - give the Oyster Helpline a call to get it resolved if need be :)

If it helps, you can use the stairs near the far end of the platforms to switch between once you’re on them!

Stupidity? No. Fess time: I've done it and so have countless others. As for being charged twice, as you couldnt tap out or tap in so it wouldnt be recorded, that's what happened to me, but I think it let me tap back in again - it was too, a debit card. Wasn't charged extra btw.

If your card is registered with TfL you will be able to go on to the website and see what you have been charged.

Lmao thanks. Eases my worry a bit. I'll wait to see how much tfl charges me. The cap should be £9 or something right?

Oo, I'll remember to register.

Clearly, if you tapped in and out within 119 seconds, then a maximum fare may be applied, which will go away once you enter the same or different tube station within 45 minutes. If its been more than 120 seconds, but less than 30 minutes, a normal single fare is applied. But after 30 minutes, it will be two maximum fares. This is known as 'same station exit'
