Evening all ☺ (first post, be kind)

Recently applied for the job at Port Talbot for Technician (Signalling Maintenance) was wondering if anybody could share some more information on the job, i would guess no days are the same, or am i wrong? I come from an electrical backround if that helps, have passed the application and online tests ( well my download link to the test states 'pass' ) and an email saying your results and application will be taken into consideration and will be contacted soon. The post closed today so i would imagine i would hear more in the next few weeks.. providing all goes well, whats next? Assesment centre or just straight to the interview?

Cheers all

Enjoy your weekend ??????

Hi Terry,
Unfortunately you may be disappointed as I'm pretty sure Network Rail will want you to at least have P.T.S, Lookout & coss competencies plus some pretty good knowledge of signalling maintenance & fault finding to be considered for a technician position.
Don't quote me on that mind, but its definitely the case where I work in the London area.
Operative ( Grade 2) would be your best bet of joining and you'll be trained in all the basics before stepping up to Technican at some point depending on vacancies etc.
Good luck to you.

Im starting in a couple weeks for this exact role through the apprenticeship scheme. Sig01 is right though its not an entry level position, Id definitely consider looking at the apprenticeship scheme if you dont have previous experience. Theres no age limit and if you can cope with the low wage it will pay off later. I couldnt say about other routes into the role but the suggestion of working up from operative sounds like a good idea. Im going to assume though that youve read through the application criteria and you meet the minimum required to have been invited to take the online tests.

The recruitment process for apprentices seems to be similar to other roles from looking online so if you have passed the online testing you may possibly a telephone interview followed by the asessment centre in Cardiff. Mine consisted of an interview, group exercise, admin session and a Q&A. It was quite relaxed and friendly but be prepared with real life examples for competency based questions during the interview and it wouldnt hurt to study up on NR's safety policy.

Good luck, if you're successful Ill see you in Port Talbot!
