2 of my recent Train journeys from Ludlow has got me questioning if Tfw have as much control as they should have.

Journey 1.

Boarded the tfw Holyhead to Birmingham International at Chester on Friday 8th March 2024.
It was in the Station for 20 minutes. In that time I overheard 2 different passenger mobile phone conversations about a track problem between Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton.
Before we had moved I thought why don't they tell Birmingham passengers to get off and travel to Crewe.
We left Chester and had not got to Wrexham before the Train manager was on the tanoy telling us that buses would be waiting for the Birmingham passengers at Shrewsbury thanks to a track blockage.
As we were approaching Shrewsbury he came on again and said that passengers for Birmingham should catch the Manchester train back to Crewe !

If 2 passengers via social media were aware at Chester that the Line East of Shrewsbury was blocked Tfw must have known as well, and yet did nothing.

Journey 2.

Was booked on the 6:49 to Shrewsbury where I was to connect with a Birmingham International service on Wednesday 17th April, 2024.
Checked "realtimetrains" at 6:00 and my Train was right time at Abergavenny.
Arrived at Ludlow Station 6:40 and was surprised to see 30 passengers waiting.
Another check on "realtimetrains" showed a Sophos York bound rail tour had left Hereford on time at 6:00 but almost immediately has stopped with a fault.
A full 45 minutes passed and the special was finally moving. The only passing loop between Hereford and Shrewsbury heading North is Woofferton, 4 miles South of Ludlow.
The special was certain to be looped to allow the now 2 delayed trains behind to pass.
Could not believe it when 2 x 47's crawled into Ludlow station and stopped.
It crawled out and my train appeared 10 minutes later. Off we set but had to stop 5 minutes later on the approach to Craven Arms at a red signal. The special was picking up.
Off we went again only for another 5 minute red signal stop on the approach to Church Stretton. yes you guessed it, the special was picking up.
Arrived at Shrewsbury 60 minutes late, time which could not be retrieved on the second leg of my journey.

The bottom line is Tfw will have to refund all the cost of my ticket.

The loop at Woofferton is not equiped for passenger trains so the Sophos working couldn't have been put in there.
No FPL's fitted.

I do think that sometimes people have unrealistic expectations. Yours wasn't the only train affected by the blockage. Control room staff would be having to devise solutions for ALL the affected trains and their passengers and crew.

No you are right, all the trains leaving Shrewsbury for Birmingham were blocked and continued to be blocked for 4 weeks!

That why I maintain that sending passengers for Birmingham to Shrewsbury was nuts !!

On the 25th June 2024 there was a Rail tour from Paignton to Shrewsbury.
It was steam hauled part of the way.
I have attached a photo of this steam train along with its 10 coaches stopped in the Woofferton loop.
How did this happen with no FPL,s ??
