It was not just in EMT areas where Q trains ran, as there once was graffiti on a bridge in the Atherton area, bemoaning the success of these trains, obviously done by someone apprehended by them in the past. In the Greater Manchester area, the chosen modus operandi was the use of an empty non-passenger carrying 2-car DMU on a non-scheduled path, with cameras and BTP in attendance, in the days when I remember these running in the 1980's and I think that Newton Heath TMD supplied the units which operated in Lancashire/Greater Manchester.
