Hi everyone

Paddington is scheduled to be closed from 24 December to 27 December due to the HS2. During this period, any GWML trains to London only terminated at Ealing Broadway.

If I hold a ticket goes London Terminals (not a Travelcard), once I arrive Ealing Broadway, can I use my current ticket to travel to Paddington on the London Underground?
I asked GWR customer service and they would not offer any other alternative transport including rail replacement bus. But they was noncommittal about ticket validity on the London Underground.

Thanks in advance

If they're refusing to provide alternative transport then you would be entitled to recover your reasonable costs from them.

But you can't just jump on the Tube without touching in/buying another ticket, since TfL aren't a Train Company under the NRCoT and thus aren't obliged to help you out if you would otherwise be stranded.

The other point worth mentioning is that if your ticket is issued from Reading or west thereof, it is likely valid on SWR services from Reading to Waterloo, although I appreciate that may be of little assistance to you if you are heading to somewhere near Paddington.

On their website GWR suggest using LU between central London and Ealing Broadway but I do note they avoid mentioning the phrase ticket acceptance. So who knows!

Thanks for your advices!

I think I might consider going to Waterloo if it's likely to require a complaint process.

Yes. I contacted them via Whatsapp, and the reply is
Your ticket will be valid via any route to a London station due to the disruption.

Journey planners for cross London destinations eg. Via Liverpool St will bring up itinerary via Central line and Paddington easily on 24th December.

Those tickets will surely have the Maltese cross? And if so would expect a cross London transfer to be fully acceptable (Ealing Broadway is an accepted place to start/end a cross London transfer).

Is there a fixed link for that, similarly to how Harrow & Wealdstone to Paddington is (I think) 40 minutes?

Not for Ealing B to Padd. But there is from Ealing B to Liv St. as per above. (There isn't a cross London transfer that could be made with start/end points of Ealing B and Padd that I can think of)
