Hi all,

What timetabling tools are available that can support PEX/PIF files please? It is purely for educational purposes and play around with creating PEX files. I would like to know if they support imported PEX files without timings or other information that isn't known yet i.e. headcode, operator, etc.

I'm trying to see if I can buy a copy of VoyagerPlan but I can't find their website. I also can't find any pricing on ATTune and doubt they'll give me access just for learning.

Thanks in advance!

Hope you have a few bob, they aren't cheap. I would assume Trainplan does it, as it was the NR system prior to TPS. I'm not sure what you are importing if you don't have a headcode or a schedule?

Hi, I have various route viewing tools that let's a user put in A to Z via B, C and D. It then shows route capability such as gauges, stock clearances, electrification and other information.

The plan would be to then allow a user to export the route tiplocs to a PEX/PIF file for them to do timings, etc.

AIUI VoyagerPlan is obsolete (i.e. Manufacturer has removed support). Anything else is likely to be 5 figures plus for an annual license.

What are you trying to do with a PEX that doesn't have timings?

But anybody who's going to be timing a train for these restrictions will have a timetable planning system anyway, at which point copying a train and amending the route will be far easier than tying to bugger about with a broken PEX.

So what would this be for? strategic or hypothetical planning? as a FOC/TOC is going to bid with all that in mind.

TOCs are paying 6 figures (each) for this kind of SaaS each year. They're also fairly complex in terms of getting them set up, it's not something you just "install" and run. Some TOCs even outsource planning (or parts of it) to consultancy organisations who specialise in using this kind of software to optimise timetables, diagrams, rostering etc.

You'd need to approach Worldline, Tracsis/Bellvedi or IVU Traffic Technologies and ask them if they can support you - but it's extremely unlikely unless you are interested in becoming a trainee consultant etc.

If there was other, open source / readily accessible software suitable, these big firms would be out of business - so I don't think you'll find anything!

You'll need at least £100,000-£200,000 plus VAT, and then probably an SLA/Hosting/Support agreement on top of that. You'll likely need to commit to a minimum term of several years, so approaching £500,000-£1,000,000.
