Apologies if this has already been asked before. I did look for an old thread, but all the old ones were locked.

I was just reading on the Wikipedia Page for Meridian Water Station that states that funding had been secured in August 2019 to contruct the 4th track between Tottenham Hale and Meridian Water.

Enfield Council’s flagship Meridian Water regeneration scheme has taken another step forward thanks to a major Government funding boost.

The council has been awarded £156 million from the Government’s Housing Infrastructure Fund (HIF) to build road and rail links at the Upper Edmonton site, which is set to provide 10,000 homes.

Chancellor Sajid Javid announced the investment on Saturday (August 17), as part of a £600 million package to support new homes in high-demand areas.

The money will be used to bring a high-frequency rail service to Meridian Water Station, which will be served by eight trains an hour during peak times.

AD

Work will include the construction of a fourth platform and a new section of track between Tottenham Hale and Meridian Water.

The funding will also help to create a boulevard running from the station to Lee Valley Park and beyond, along with two new parks, cycle lanes, naturalised brooks, and additional bridge connections.
I think this is where the Wikipedia statement comes from.

Is this true or was true considering the current situation or not confirmed?

If it is true, any idea on the timescales for the project?

Crossrail 2 is supposed to run on the 2 eastern tracks north from Tottenham Hale to Broxbourne, but that whole project is now pushed back, so it's a very long way off.

It certainly was true - sort of.

Money was awarded to enable additional services between Tottenham Hale and Merdian Water, as the article says. Early thinking about the proposal is shown on the Enfield website here:

However, the Department for Transport (DfT) reprioritisation of plans to use of the Lee Valley main line tracks for outer suburban and Stansted trains, when it reached its decision in 2015 on the new franchise specification to be offered to bidders for the Anglia train services.

The result of changes had resulted in the integrated service, with 2 tph local calls on the two main line tracks at Meridian Water and 2 tph on the new 3rdtrack (so 4 trains an hour in total), was reduced to be 2 tphon the 3rd track–a train every half-hour –plus occasional peak periods calls on the main line tracks –effectively a ‘2+’ tph service.
Where the proposal is now, I don’t know.

I would be doubtful if you could get four tracks on the whole section from Coppermill Jn to Broxbourne / Broxbourne Jn without a maximum double island platform arrangement within the existing land footprint which would give platform faces on all lines.

However it wouldn't surprise me if in places certain stations wouldn't be able to have platforms on the new lines so as to stay within the land footprint (and no compulsory purchase orders).

There’s no way you can get four lines to Broxbourne without going outside the boundary in several places, even with no ‘fast line’ platforms.
