Hi,
Wondering if someone can help with two quick questions:
1) After the pay jumps after the initial training from £22k to £30k and a bit does it then jump again after the first year??
2) Is overtime/working rest days something which can be fairly certain to rely on, at Newcastle in particular.
Thanks

It doesn’t jump again after £30.4k, thst is the qualified conductor salary. Pre covid there was a pay rise every April, there hasn’t been once since 2019 I think.

Conductors at tpe aren’t working non rostered overtime or rest days currently. This has been the case since February due to industrial action. You should also not rely on rest day work.

No it’s £22k and then £30.4k once qualified and you’re out on the network on your own with no further increases.

Not at the moment no, due to a reduced timetable and industrial action as Wave01 has pointed out. However, do bare in mind that you’ll be contracted to work booked Sundays which are overtime and are in addition to the £30.4 salary. All RMT grade conductors are currently not working overtime or rest days until further notice outside of these booked Sundays

This is not just for yourself but for anyone applying for railway jobs - never rely on overtime. I've seen far too many people get caught out by industrial disputes or lack of overtime for other reasons. Overtime is overtime, it is bonus money and you shouldn't count it in your sums!

I’m more than happy with my qualified salary but the option of overtime is a great potential ‘bonus’. However is there literally no overtime currently across the network apart from the Sunday working?

As I state, the qualified salary is a pay-rise and working less hours a week.

In regards to overtime during the dispute this has now been reinstated this afternoon.

Nope, that’s not the case. However, there are factors within the company reducing the amount of overtime available, such as the current 70% timetable, but equally a recent rise in sickness is leading to uncovered turns, which could essentially become overtime to anyone who wants it once spare allocations have been used.

Overtime is regularly available and offered via email, but most staff will do on average less than one shift a month normally.

Ahh thank you for the reply.

As I say I see overtime as a bonus and never rely on it but good option to have on occasion.
