I notice that a fifth edition is out which is possibly dated October 2022. Unfortunately it seems not to include HS2, so I'm not sure I'll buy it, already owning the 2018 edition.

I have a copy, it is indeed dated Oct 2022 and can confirm it doesn't have HS2 in it.

In my case, my previous version was the 1996 reprint of the 1987 1st edition, so an update was well beyond due

That may be because the exact track layout is not yet known, or maybe because another edition or two will come along before it's anywhere near ready.
