I travelled on the West Coast Main Line south of Stoke.

Every now and again there were a line of posts on each side of the track - they were t-shaped and on the cross bar there were a large number of squares-either sensors or number indicators - there might have been about 10 in a row.

After a while, they seem to be where there were track crossovers.

Can anyone explain what they are where I can find out more.

Thanks.

I thought but rejected that - seemed too hi-tech - thought it might be something to do with the tilting mechanism. How the imagination goes!
