West Coast Railways’ 37706 is currently stabled at Joppa Straight (near the electrification train) and has been for a couple of weeks. The electrification train coaches were sold a few years ago to a scrap dealer but have never yet been touched.

Joppa Straight is the name for the sidings opposite Portobello Jn and next to the Network Rail depot; basically the two roads you can see in the photo of the electrification train above.
The connection from the East depot line to the Up/Down Suburban is used regularly for traffic to and from the depot to and from the Sub.

Thanks for the info, I had wondered why a wcr 37 was hanging around there! I take it there are absolutely no stabling facilities at Millerhill now it has been rejigged and has the 385 service points? Surely there has to be a rail linked use for the old freightliner terminal now?

Millerhill has only 4 through roads left, but they’re DB Cargo infrastructure so there would need to be an access agreement in place between parties before you could stable a loco there whereas Joppa Straight is Network Rail infrastructure so is effectively ‘free’ to operators. The 37 came to Scotland for snow standby last month but wasn’t needed and hasn’t returned to Carnforth yet.

1. Welcome to the forum
2. The electrification train has been sold for scrap, not the 37. The 37 is just waiting there.
Glad to here it is a beautiful bit of machinery all my family work on the railway all drivers from my dad and my brothers I was on the Pway for a while but wasn’t keen so went back to repairing cars

The wheel lathe at Craigentinny is operational and very busy. Baileyfield is operational (owned by VAE UK) but doesn’t dispatch anything by rail.
