Hey folks,
I have just submitted my Network rail application for TDA few days ago and awaiting an interview confirmation in next few days.
I'm feeling optimistic as my current role is a close call operative and has many parallels to the TDA; however, wanted to ask TDA's out there
what were the interview questions you can remember? I'm prone to underselling myself which has meant Iv'e not done as well in interviews I really should be passing in the past so hopefully I won't do that again for the TDA role.

Thanks for reading and hope you can help

What location have you applied to, out of interest?

It's a role primarily focused around impartial investigation, evaluating info sources, working under pressure, and attention to detail, so expect questions about that - and provide examples where you've demonstrated those skills. You'll also probably be asked what you know about the job and why it's important.

You could be asked some questions around what you might do if you suddenly became overwhelmed with delays, or what you would do if the system went down. It's a job with a lot of set processes to follow so keep that in mind, although sounds like you'll already be used to this.

Some have reported diversity and inclusion questions being asked as well so worth having an answer about the importance of this ready too.

And don't forget what is normally the first question (and the one most people overlook)... Why do you want the job?

Thanks so much friend :) really appreciate all your insight and advice so much. The role will be in York btw. I needed some advice about geography btw 1) I heard I can be tested on geographical knowledge pertaining to the area I'll be working on...so do you know in what sense 'geographical knowledge' ie it which stations are covered, or is it which signal boxes?...what kind of geographical questions will they be asking/testing me on basically? 2) also it says on the interview the job is in York IECC but i checked wikipedia and York IECC is closed down and moved over to the ROC? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/York_IECC

Geography-wise I'm sure all you'd be expected to know is the different TOCs that operate on the area controlled by York, and the major stations. Anything else would be a bonus. TDAs often come in off the street so you don't have to have enormous knowledge right at the start. Just enough to demonstrate you're paying attention!

And yes, you'd be based in York ROC.

Geography wise York TDA, as well as doing LNE to the Scottish border, also do the old Midland out of St Pancras & related lines west to near Nuneaton, Tamworth and Stoke.
