I recently passed my Train Maintainer exam and Interview for TFL, and received an email stating I will be on the Talent pool waiting list for 18 months. They didn’t make it obvious in the email if I would definitely get a job within those 18 months. So I’m wondering for those already in Train Maintainer positions at TFL, how long did you wait in the talent pool before you got “the call”? Or is there anybody who didn’t get a position at all?

Sadly talent pools are railway nonsense most of the time.

I was in the same talent pool and never heard anything back, years later I’m now a driver instead. Many of the guys were made redundant from the rail maintenance facility in my area and applied for TFL, ending up in the never ending talent pool. Funnily they ended up doing agency maintainer jobs with TFL earning much more money, it became clear they were more interested in disposable workers than the pain of permanent workers. Whilst they were there jobs went live and people were hired straight into the roles others were in talent pools for - they’re probably so inefficient and bureaucratic that they lost the bit of paper in the filing cabinet with the taken pool names on.

I’d not hold your breath, keep applying elsewhere if you can.
